Full Tilt Poker's Max Pescatori didn't need to plunder the final table of Event 24 to walk away with the treasure - he just had to navigate yet another difficult World Series of Poker final table. In the end, Pescatori steered his way clear of the field to claim first-place prize money worth $246,471 and his second career WSOP bracelet.
Joining Pescatori at the final table were WSOP veteran Minh Ly and Team Full Tilt's Allen Cunningham, who was searching for his sixth career bracelet. Unfortunately for Cunningham, the cards didn't fall Allen's way and he walked away in fourth place. Pescatori, on the other hand, steered a steady course throughout the day and entered heads-up play slightly behind second-place finisher Kyle Kloekner.
Pescatori took the chip lead on the first hand of heads-up play, and then continued to grind Kloekner down through their 30-minute battle. The match ended during a round of Omaha when Pescatori, holding K-J-8-7, flopped top two pair on a board of K-J-3. Running deuces on the turn and river didn't improve Kloekner's hand, and gave the Italian Pirate his second bracelet. Pescatori's first bracelet came in a $2,500 No-Limit Hold 'em event at the 2006 Series.
"Winning two bracelets in three years in the modern era of the WSOP puts Max near the top of anyone's list of the best tournament players," said Team Full Tilt member Howard Lederer.
